Tony Robinson did a fantastic job on the latest episode of Channel 4′s Walking Through History as he visited The Roundhouse. He ended his incredible journey through industrial history here in Derby.
Tony describes The Roundhouse in the programme “the railway town’s secret crown jewel is the world’s first engine roundhouse, built in 1839 and now restored to its former glory”

Derby College’s Roundhouse has been awarded a gold award for the second year running in the National Recycling Stars programme.
The award has been made in recognition of the College’s and Venue’s work in increasing recycling and diverting waste from landfill.

We’ve just had another great Beer Festival here at The Roundhouse. CAMRA host their winter festival with us and this year saw over 9,000 visitors to the 4 day festival!

Derby’s Food & Drink industry headed for The Roundhouse last night for the fourth annual Derby Food and Drink Awards. Recognised as one of the region’s biggest awards in this sector, the evening celebrated the best of the food and drink offer in the city, with categories including Best Lunch, Best Newcomer and the coveted Restaurant of the Year. This year’s awards were supported by Marketing Derby, QUAD, Derby College and Owen Taylor and hosted by Capital FM’s Dino & Pete.
Over 1,000 nominations were received, doubling previous years, indicating a stronger offer of eating and drinking establishments in the city. Marketing Derby’s John Forkin praised the finalists and winners.
“The Derby Food and Drink Awards are now firmly established in the food and drink calendar and are keenly awaited and hotly contested. There is strength and quality in every category and all finalists are to be congratulated on making the shortlist and I’m sure that the winners will look forward to defending their title again next year”.
The awards also saw the launch of a free to download iPhone app called “Taste Derby” – featuring all finalists and over 100 of the very best places to eat and drink in the city, developed in partnership with Marketing Derby Bondholder Silver Pride.

The events team at The Roundhouse in Derby are celebrating after a prestigious win on Friday night. The venue won the highly coveted ‘Event Space of the Year’ award at the national Event Awards 2012 which took place at London’s Roundhouse.
The awards, hosted by TV presenter George Lamb, recognise industry leaders in the events sector and celebrates the work of some of the UK’s finest brands, agencies, venues and suppliers. In attendance were Ideal Home Show, BBC Gardeners World, Grand Designs Live and Sainsburys Sport Relief Mile to celebrate the ceremonies fifteenth year.
Roundhouse Events Manager, Helen Peden, said “we are so delighted to have been recognised for the unique and inspiring event space we are. There was some fierce competition with venues such as Tower Bridge and Shakespere’s Globe all contending, so to be recognised as an industry leader with names such as those makes this even more special and great news for Derby”.
